Ingredients
Scale
Noodles
- 8 ounces lo mein or spaghetti noodles
Proteins
- 1/2 pound sirloin steak, thinly sliced
- 1/2 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
Vegetables
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped
Sauces and Oils
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Cook noodles: Prepare the noodles according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside to prevent overcooking.
- Sear steak: Heat 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced sirloin steak and sear for 2 to 3 minutes until browned but still tender. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- Sauté shrimp: Add the remaining butter and olive oil to the skillet. Sauté the shrimp for about 2 minutes per side until they turn pink and are cooked through. Remove the shrimp and set aside with the steak.
- Cook vegetables: In the same skillet, add minced garlic, sliced red bell pepper, and broccoli florets. Stir-fry the vegetables for 3 to 4 minutes until they are crisp-tender, preserving their bright color and crunch.
- Prepare sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes if using. This sauce provides the savory and slightly sweet flavor base for the dish.
- Toss noodles and sauce: Add the cooked noodles to the skillet with vegetables. Pour the prepared sauce over the noodles and toss everything thoroughly to ensure even coating.
- Combine protein and heat through: Return the cooked steak and shrimp to the skillet with the noodles and vegetables. Stir-fry everything together for another 2 minutes to heat through and meld flavors.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions and fresh parsley or cilantro. Serve hot for a satisfying meal.
Notes
- For a lighter version, substitute wheat noodles with rice noodles.
- Add more vegetables like snap peas, carrots, or mushrooms for extra nutrition and variety.
- Adjust red pepper flakes according to spice preference.
- Using a wok helps in even stir-frying, but a large skillet works well too.
